Mental Health Support Worker/Counsellor
We are currently recruiting for full time Mental Health Support Workers for a number of Community Outreach Services based in Derry. You will provide practical and emotional supports to service users in the community including those at risk of homelessness, family support and addiction services.
These are temporary contracts with potential for permanent opportunities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- To undertake assessments, including assessment of mental health needs and risk assessments
- To establish a collaborative working relationship with the service user based on trust and respect
- To plan and implement specialist psychological interventions to help service users to understand their feelings/behaviour
- To empower service users to address their issues, take control of them and make positive changes to their behaviour
- To monitor and evaluate the outcome of treatments
- To collaborate with - and provide advice to - colleagues, the broader multidisciplinary team and referrers in the planning of treatment and provision of services to meet the client's needs
- To provide a variety of interventions and support in relation to specific mental health issues and client motivation, that are in line with identified needs and individual support plans
- To be responsive to needs, tailored and customised to specific circumstances, and that are reviewed on a regular basis to accommodate changes in the service users life
- To Support the service users to manage their mental health and be able to respond appropriately in times of crises.
- To provide individual and group counselling sessions where appropriate.
- To assist individuals to manage their emotions through de-escalation strategy
- With service users permission - educate service user's’ families about the mental health problems and how to help aid recovery
- Developing an increasing awareness off and access to community & voluntary agencies/services who can offer service users alternative avenues for support and therapeutic help
Criteria:
- Diploma in counselling from a recognised institution Accredited or working towards accreditation with BACP/IACP with a minimum of 50 supervised counselling hours
- OR a minimum of 3 years’ paid experience of working with adults with mental health issues
- Be live on the NISCC register or open to registration
