Full-Time (37.5hpw) Stroke Specialist Speech and language therapist Band 6 based in Western trust AAH/community stroke team required for 3 month initially.
JOB CRITERIA –
Two years post-graduate experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist with adults with disorders of communication and swallowing
AND
Post-graduate qualification/training in dysphagia resulting in competence to independently manage a non-complex dysphagia caseload.
Degree/Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy recognised by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
AND
Eligibility for current registration with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and HCPC
AND
Successful completion of the Newly Qualified Practitioner’s Framework or equivalent
AND
Evidence of ongoing CPD to include post-graduate, formal or in-service training in acquired adult communication/swallowing disorders
Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
Competent in clinical decision-making and delivery of SLT interventions relating to communication and swallowing in the area of acquired neurological disorders including stroke.
Competent to independently manage a dysphagia caseload
Excellent oral and written communication skills including ability to develop and maintain communication with people on complex matters, issues and ideas and/or complex situations
Able to provide and receive sensitive information in a professional and empathetic manner
Competent to teach and train others in relation to SLT role and interventions with the client group
Capable of working and communicating well within a multi-disciplinary team environment
Able to monitor and adapt own practice and to contribute to service evaluation/audit to improve service delivery improving quality both in own work and the work of others.
Able to demonstrate initiative and motivate self and others
Excellent organisational skills including ability to prioritise competing demands
Aware of and works within limits of own competence and responsibility
